Pregame for a Hangover-Free 5th of July

Pregame for a Hangover-Free 5th of July

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by the saying “Beer before liquor, never been sicker- liquor before beer, you're in the clear.”

Facts: (1) we all love going out; Fact: (2) we all love to drink; and Fact: (3) we all HATE hangovers. Simple solution, guys. Pregame, pregame, pregame! Turns out, the secret to a hangover-free 5th of july might be not in what you don’t drink, but what you do.

Let’s learn a little about alcohol and what it does to the body:

1: Alcohol is a vasodilator

At low levels—a drink or two—alcohol is a vasodilator: it dilates the blood vessels in the body and improves blood flow. However, at high levels—two drinks, three, four—alcohol begins to constrict blood vessels and increase blood pressure. So what does all this mean? It means that after you consume four, five, six drinks you better be ready to wake up with a hangover. Those blood vessels in your head that were constricted last night are now throbbing and giving you a massive headache!

2: Liver no likey

Alcohol is super taxing on your liver. After you shotgun your classy can of Bud Light ( or for you college kids cracking a PBR with your dorm key) the booze is absorbed by your gut and heads straight to the liver to be broken down. Breaking down alcohol is no easy task. In fact, alcohol can be so tough on the liver that at high levels it will begin to destroy the functional cells. Over time this can be -no bueno.

All that being said, July 4th is on the horizon. I’m sure you and your buddies are planning a weekend of fun, sun and debauchery. You want your crew to be standing by day three? Here’s the trick. Pregame for it. We’re going to walk you through the game plan: (1) drink PLENTY of water in the week before the fourth. Get electrolytes in there as well: pedialyte, Gatorade, Powerade. If you’re not hydrated ahead of time you’ll be in for a rude awakening; (2) prepare your liver as much as possible. What are some ways you can do that?

For starters, botanicals like milk thistle, artichoke and choline found in hangover support products like Like in Something® for a Mini Rehab contributes to the maintenance of normal liver function, helping to break down harmful alcohol-induced toxins and restore lost vitamins and minerals. Even better, add some powerful anti-inflammatory agents to the mix and you’ll be ready to rage no time!

VITALFIT TART CHERRY (RECOVERY)

Surprisingly, cherries are an excellent source of antioxidants and can get you right there. Vital Fit tart cherry is an extra dose of pick-me-up after one of those long weekends, Restorative plant compounds, unique to tart cherries, help help alleviate aches, pains, and soreness—naturally.
